An evolution of traditional art

Created by designer Naoto Fukasawa for Japanese paper company Onao, the ‘siwa’ collection represents an evolution in Japanese traditional art. Naoto and Onao have broadened the uses of washi paper, employing it to create bags, book sleeves and notebook covers. As with excellent craft art, each piece is made by hand, while the material used (paper) has been made waterproof, resistant to tears and very durable. Each bag is even capable of carrying up 10 kg of your favorite items! I appreciate the way in which they have adapted traditional art to modern life, evolving in unexpected, practical directions without losing any of the original spirit.
