Steel is the most recycled material on the planet, and is used in countless applications.  In 2005, 43% of the steel produced in the world was recycled.  While it is quite heavy, its strength combined with clever design can lead to relatively light, yet very strong geometry.

Eco-Pro: Steel is extremely recyclable, and often recycled.  Stainless steel is a good naturally corrosion resistant material which requires no secondary finishing or coating, reducing processes.

Eco-Con: Steel is heavy, and when not designed properly, steel parts and add unnecessary weight to a product.

Question the Premise of the Material:

Alternatives: Aluminum, zinc, brass, glass filled plastic

Same Material, Better Process:  Recycled, recycled recycled!  There's no excuse for using virgin steel.
