“You use your mobile device for pretty much everything these days, right? So why not the kitchen?” the tech blog wrote in their coverage of the LUNAR-designed tablet-based homeConnect experience featured in Siemens’ booth at the IFA show in Berlin.
Connected devices was a pretty big topic at this year’s show, with plenty of tech-savvy tools to infuse smartness into the home via smartphones, screens integrated in refrigerators and even a fully connected living experience demoed by Deutsche Telekom.
But missing in most cases was simplicity. And we think simplicity makes all the difference for homeConnect.
Showgoers seemed to agree as they packed the Siemens’ big booth to check out homeConnect (more than 238K attendees hit the show). Viewing the content of their refrigerator via live cameras and having the ability to easily switch off the stove seemed to be the killer apps.
homeConnect gave Siemens a way to project a strong and simple, user-centered view of the future with a complete approach to addressing kitchen needs that includes recipes, device controls, energy management tools and shopping services. Siemens was happy with the response from both consumers and industry reps, and we saw a fair amount of interest from Siemens’ competitors. Always a sign that you’re doing something right.
