Lunar Shows Hot Stuff at Stanford's
Cool Product Expo 2005
April 06, 2005 - For the fourth year in a row, Lunar Design, headquartered in San Francisco, CA, is showcasing many of its hot new product designs and engineering projects at the Cool Product Expo 2005, sponsored by the Alliance for Innovative Manufacturing, the Product Design & Manufacturing Club, and Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. The Cool Product Expo features new products and companies innovating in the fields of manufacturing and design, including start-ups, university research labs, global manufacturers with new R&D, and award-winning design studios.
“We’re so pleased to be included again in Stanford’s Cool Product Expo,” says Lunar President John Edson. “To us, cool can mean a lot of things, such as trend, style and pioneering technology. But ultimately, the marketplace decides what is cool. Our job is to create products that address unmet needs, reflect a company’s brand, and build real differentiation through creative and innovative thinking.”
Lunar will be showing a handful of its newest products, including the Novint Falcon 3D touch interface device, SanDisk Ultra II SD PLUS flash memory card, SanDisk Sansa e100 Digital Audio Player, Seagate USB 2.0 pocket drive, Seagate 3.5 inch External Hard Drive, and the Accuray CyberKnife System with the Synchrony Respiratory Tracking System.
Novint Falcon
The Novint Falcon is the first computer interface device that brings interactive 3D touch to the consumer market. Expected to be available in early 2006, the device will retail for under $100. The Novint Falcon, coupled with the company’s patented 3D touch software, enables people to experience a realistic sense of touch on their computer, fundamentally transforming how they play and interact. Users can now experience a full range of realistic touch sensations including shape, texture, weight and dynamics, motivating an evolution in video games and creating significant new opportunities for existing and emerging mass-market applications.
SanDisk Ultra II SD PLUS
The SD Plus flash memory card is the latest product Lunar designed for SanDisk, the global leader in flash memory products. Targeted primarily at the professional digital camera and prosumer market, Lunar and SanDisk achieved groundbreaking engineering for this dual functionality storage and data transfer card. The innovative snap-up USB board nestled into the front of the product plugs directly into a USB port with no need for readers, cables or adapters.
SanDisk Sansa e100 Digital Audio Player
SanDisk's Sansa e100 Series of Digital Audio Players provide high-quality digital music playback with easy navigation, enhanced sound quality and expandable storage capacity, all in an eye-catching appearance. Users can add up to 2GB of additional storage space with the SD slot for more MP3, WMA (including protected purchased content), and Audible format files. The sophisticated navigation screen allows for sorting by artist, album, song title, and more.
Seagate Drives
Lunar will be showing two storage devices it designed in collaboration with Seagate Technologies the small size, large capacity USB 2.0 Pocket Drive and the USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive. The elegant, palm-sized pocket drives are small enough to fit in a jacket, yet they safely store large amounts of data. The durable, round shell is engineered to absorb shocks, and the device is powered by the computer, eliminating the need for a power supply.
The Seagate USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drives are extremely compact and rugged, taking up very little space in a pocket, briefcase, or on a desktop. Weighing less than a pound, the portable drives provide easy access to large amounts of data, including digital music, photos, video, data and multimedia files.
Accuray CyberKnife System with the Synchrony Respiratory Tracking System
The Accuray Synchrony Respiratory Tracking System continuously correlates the motion of internal tumors with the breathing rate of its wearer. Knowing the exact location of a tumor regardless of a patient's breathing allows Accuray’s CyberKnife Stereotactic Radiosurgery System to precisely and quickly irradiate it while the patient breathes naturally, resulting in healthier surrounding tissues, treatment times reduced from months to weeks, and in some cases allowing treatment of cancers previously thought inoperable due to delicate nearby structures. These technological improvements and advances greatly expand the horizons of cancer treatment.
