Lunar Announces Expansion of Reach into Asia
December 28, 2005 -- Lunar Design, a 21-year-old world leader in creating successful, iconic products for consumer and medical clients, announces the opening of its Hong Kong office. The new branch will be led by Lunar veteran Andrew Zee, former director of engineering for Lunar in California.
“We’re excited to solidify our commitment to serving clients who do business in Asia,” said Lunar’s president, John Edson. “This office amplifies our ability to provide turnkey services to our clients who are manufacturing their products or sourcing components in Asia. We are also better positioned to provide around the clock support for clients based in China, Korea, Japan and beyond.”
“Andrew Zee is the perfect individual to expand Lunar into Asia. His cultural understanding spans both the U.S. and Asia," said Robert Howard, Lunar’s vice president of engineering. "Andrew grew up in Hong Kong, was educated at Stanford and worked for Lunar in California for nearly a decade. He is an excellent engineering leader who understands the nuances involved in defining successful products and getting them to market.”
Lunar’s nascent operations in China have already been instrumental in getting startup client, T'emogique, off the ground. "Among other factors for creating a successful company, T'emogique was focused on cost containment and speed to market,” said Zee, Lunar’s new Hong Kong director. “Being located in China full time has been crucial in enabling us to quickly and effectively help T'emogique source suppliers with the components that make up its first product, Philm, available in time for the holiday travel season," said Zee. "We were able to get great pricing that will allow Philm to see profitability quite soon.”
T'emogique has relied heavily on Lunar’s design and engineering capabilities to create a complex yet user-friendly technology product. Philm is a USB stick with custom software that enables people to create a unique video of their vacations by automatically integrating personal digital photos with professional video clips and music.
The result is a magical experience. Vacation pictures come to life without the hassle of having to learn any new software. “What we’re doing with Philm is emotionalizing technology,” said T'emogique founder, Jeff Smith. “Lunar's abilities to quickly connect emotionally with consumers through design and to deliver the system components have been vital to our initial success.”
Philm is available this holiday season at premium retail locations in Switzerland and online at www.philm.com.
