Unveiling the Creativity Behind the Scenes of Design

Lunar Announces a New Format for Icon-o-Cast

San Francisco, Calif. (November 13, 2006) -- Lunar Design, a twenty-one year old world leader in creating successful, memorable products for the consumer and medical industries, announces a new format for Icon-o-Cast, a podcast that aims to demystify the world of design, creativity, and innovation.

Icon-O-Cast, established in 2005, has been bringing innovators to the forefront of the public discussion on design: Bruce Nussbaum of BusinessWeek, Allison Arieff, formerly of Dwell Magazine, Don Norman, author of The Design of Everyday Things and Emotional Design, Steve Diller of Cheskin, and  Elaine Ann of Kaizor Innovation. As they entered their second year of Icon-o-Cast, Lunar took a step back and applied their creative process to the format of the podcast, considering “what works” and what else they would “do differently.”

Treating the first year’s production as a functional prototype and a basis for learning, Lunar was able to identify how to best refine the organization of Icon-O-Cast. The beauty of podcasting is that shows don’t need to be any particular format or any particular length – nor do they need to be the same length each time.  Lunar is shaking things up, which allows for more creative license and provides listeners with a fresher, more varied listen.

Lunar has created five icon-o-cast departments which will be delivered as individual shows.  The following encompasses the new format of Icon-O-Cast:

Cover Story: A feature length story on current events or in-depth interviews with noteworthy individuals who are using design to make a difference in the world. The Don Norman ‘Cover Story’ was our first feature length interview.

From the News and ReviewsDesk:  Listeners will be hearing Lunar’s point of view on the design news of the day – new product reviews and talk about how we see them making a difference – or not.

Transmissions from Earth: Focusing on the response from Icon-o-Cast listeners, Lunar will read letters from listeners, talk about ideas Lunar’s designers are seeing in books and on other related podcasts and blogs, and let our listeners know what’s going on at the conferences Lunar is attending.

Man in the Moon: These episodes will take a look at what’s happening here inside Lunar’s four walls.   Many of the Icon-o-Cast listeners have asked about the design process and about inspiration for creativity.   We’ll take you inside Lunar to talk to the people that are making things happen – looking for what inspires them and talking with our listeners about the design process – as Lunar sees it.

Trendspotting: This department will be an occasional discussion on the things Lunar is seeing in design, culture, and consumer preference, both here and around the world.

Each Icon-o-Cast episode will only be one of these features, so a month of features taken together will make up an entire audio magazine.
