Lunar Design Launches Medical Advisory Board
Names Four Members from Stanford University
June 18, 2003 – Lunar Design has announced the formation of the Lunar Medical Advisory Board in order to offer a greater depth of expertise in medical technology product development. Comprised of doctors from a variety of fields, the board elevates Lunar’s medical design expertise to the next level of excellence and enriches the value it offers to its healthcare clients.
Lunar President John Edson described several key advantages the Medical Advisory Board gives Lunar. “By establishing a network of trusted medical experts, we provide our clients with powerful resources for cross-disciplinary insights, second opinions, and specialized thinking,” said Edson.
“Our relationships with our board members and their associates mean that Lunar can create teams of knowledgeable experts instantaneously,” he added. “Additionally, incorporating medical professionals into the Lunar mindset gives us deeper empathy and shared perspectives that only living and working with practicing experts can offer. We’re excited to offer these benefits to our clients.”
The four charter board members include:
- Rajiv Doshi, MD, MSE, Lecturer in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine
- James I. Fann, MD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine and Staff Surgeon with the Section of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Palo Alto, CA, Veterans Affairs Health Care System
- Stephen J. Ruoss, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine
- Daniel Y. Sze, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology at Stanford University School of Medicine.
“It’s quite an honor for me and the other board members to help contribute to the success of Lunar and its clients,” said Dr. Doshi. “Lunar is a leading product developer for many outstanding medical products being used in clinics, hospitals and research settings. We’re eager to share our knowledge and expertise with the Lunar team and its clients.”
Robert Howard, Lunar’s vice president of engineering and coordinator of the new board, said the board members were chosen via a nomination process based on excellence in their respective fields. “Our board members offer unique abilities covering a wide range of disciplines that are especially relevant to device development and consulting,” said Howard. “These doctors are active in multiple complementary disciplines, enabling each to synthesize fresh approaches and offer cross-disciplinary thinking to whatever problem Lunar and its clients face.”
Howard explained how the board would help Lunar bridge the traditional gap between product development consultants and their clients’ unique core technologies. “By incorporating medical professionals into our day-to-day culture, we build our understanding of our clients’ businesses and their technologies,” said Howard. “We can jumpstart our projects with the board members’ added knowledge, and we become a ready resource for clients needing a fresh, expert point of view.”
