The course, titled "MAD with Design: Making A Difference To Your Technology or Product-Based Venture," is part of the Entrepreneurial Studies Program DesignTechConnect Series at the college.
The course, a three-day intensive for high-tech entrepreneurs, runs Thursday, June 15, 2006 – Saturday, June 17, 2006. This unique program has been created for entrepreneurs in technology and new product ventures who wish to increase their awareness and understanding of design.
Smith, Co-Founder, CEO and senior product strategist of Palo Alto, California-based Lunar Design, a 21-year-old world leader in creating successful, memorable products for the consumer, technology and medical industries, has been credited with numerous design awards and has been a featured speaker for organizations such as Innotown, MIT’s Enterprise Forum, Wharton School, Design Management Institute and Industrial Designers Society of America.
"Drawing upon over 20 years designing for start-ups, some of the best known brands in the world and our own ventures, we're able to make strong connections between the goals of business and the tools of design," said Smith. "This course with Art Center is a welcome opportunity to further the discussion about how creativity makes a difference to business results."
The Entrepreneurial Studies Program at Art Center College of Design offers high-level education opportunities that provide technology, design and business entrepreneurs with the keys to understanding design as a widely recognized and crucial ingredient for business success in today's economy and how to apply it to their own ventures.
"New technologies and ideas are changing our world. The role of design, particularly in the complex product development process, has reached unprecedented importance," said David Walker, dean of public programs at the Art Center College of Design. “To launch our new Entrepreneurial Studies program for high-tech entrepreneurs, Art Center recruited Lunar Design's renowned CEO Jeff Smith to lead the inaugural course because of his extensive experience creating successful consumer products and companies."
