LUNAR lost a dear colleague on Friday, July 22, 2011. Robert Howard and his family died in a tragic roadway accident while on vacation in Canada. Our deepest condolences go out to their families.
Robert was an amazing engineer, beloved leader and great friend in his role as vice president of engineering at LUNAR. We were so fortunate to have his brilliance, wit and humanity for the past 15 years and also the joyful presence of his family – Ana-Maria, Sam and Nica – who shared their lives with us too. They were such an important part of our family and this news is devastatingly sad for us. Robert and his family’s influence was profoundly valuable, always positive and will last forever. We will keep their memory alive and near and dear in our hearts… always.
Please join us in celebrating their memories today and in the coming weeks, months and years.
To all my friends at Lunar-
I was shocked to read about this tragedy on Sunday. Over many years I came to respect Robert as both an engineer and as a friend. The only good i read from this is that he was vacationing with and enjoying time with his family. May their adventure together live on.

Dear everyone at Lunar,
I would like to offer my deepest condolences. This is such a devastating news I still cannot believe. I heard the sad news from Dr. Raj Doshi. I was truly looking forward to working with Robert on the new project that we’ve been discussing about for the past month and a half. Robert was a great boss and mentor during my internship at Lunar in 2004.

My heart goes out to everyone at Lunar. I know from experience that you guys really are one big family down there and that this is like the loss of a brother, sister, and cousins all at once. Reena and I are devastated as well, and we send our love. Hang in there. Peace to everyone.
Dear Lunar family,
My thoughts and condolences go out to you and especially John Howard Robert’s brother. I interacted with Robert while working at Inhale Therapeutics, and while only briefly knowing him enjoyed our discussions and design/ engineering sessions.
So Saddened by this terrible family tragedy and loss. Our Heartfelt Sympathy and condolences to the Howard/Dias Family and Lunar Colleagues Ricardo Gomes, Design & Industry Department Chair at San Francisco State University
Chère Sandrine, je partage ta tristesse et celle de toute l’agence. Que dire face à un tel drame ! Si ce n’est t’envoyer ce petit message de soutien from France.

It is very sad and shocking to know about this tragic loss. Robert will always remain a great source of inspiration for innovators like us who were fortunate to have worked with him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. My they rest in peace.
I knew Robert professionally through my work with Lunar Designs over the years – a more genuine and friendly person is hard to imagine. This is a hard loss. My condolences to family, friends, and colleagues. Robert’s stamp is on everything Lunar.
I had gotten to know Robert only recently and we had been in discussions about working together. I will remember him as a warm, friendly, open, and collaborative professional. I am deeply saddened by his tragic and untimely death and that of his family. My most heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
I met Rob only a few times but his passion, ingenuity, intellectual capacity and amiable personality were all well represented. I can’t imagine the pain and grief being experienced by their families at this time. I can only express my condolences and best wishes in this time of pain.
I can not tell you how truly sad I am to hear this and can’t imagine the impact it must be having on everyone at Lunar. The small interaction I had with Robert showed the passion, creativity, and energy I’m sure he brought to everything he worked on.
Please know that the people that knew him at Disney are thinking of his family and everyone at Lunar and hope you have the support you need to make it through this awful tragedy.
I am so, so sorry to hear about this tragedy. I offer my sincere condolences to both extended families. Robert and Ana Maria were wonderful people and offered so much to others. My sympathies – Linda Turney, past co-worker at Lunar.

Very shocked and saddened to hear about this. I will remember Robert for his generosity and helpfulness when we were at Stanford this past six months. Deepest condolences from all the Singapore Stanford Biodesign fellows.
This is extremely sad news. Robert is a great guy who extended his hand many times to all of us over at Stanford Biodesign.
He was also instrumental in starting international ties with India and Singapore, and that is how I first got to know him. I will always remember his cheerful smile and all the help he has given to the Singapore Stanford Biodesign group.
A lovely, bright, talented, and kind man. A very horrible loss. I knew Robert early in his career, ad we spoke periodically. He loved what he did and he loved Lunar. Of that I am confident. Robert’s friends, family and colleagues have my deepest sympathies.
