LUNAR Creates a Seamless Surface Expressing Confidence and Security in New
Check Point Abra Secure UBS Flash Drive
San Francisco, CA (March 17, 2010) -- LUNAR announces its role in the development of the Check Point Abra secure USB flash drive for SanDisk, with the debut of a bold design for the tech giant's newly engineered product line. Check Point Abra, combines a SanDisk high-performance, encrypted USB Flash drive with Check Point virtualization, VPN and security technologies to create a device that gives mobile workers access to files and applications from anywhere and at anytime. Inspired by the concept of the impenetrable monolith, LUNAR's product design features a seamless surface aesthetic and sturdy construction that brings the look of data security to a new level.
The Abra secure USB flash drive is engineered for the greatest possible security and designed specifically for use by mobile professionals in government, defense, and other industries dealing with highly sensitive information. LUNAR's challenge was to complete the expression of the Abra USB drive’s security features with an innovative design that evokes impenetrability and inspires confidence. The resulting solution approaches this goal from both a visual and tactile perspective, creating an object that is pure, iconic, and monolithic.
To achieve a seamless look, the drive utilizes a concealed extension mechanism rather than a traditional cap or tab slide, evoking the mystery and hidden engineering of traditional stash boxes and secret compartments. A subtle knurl pattern on the drive's surface indicates where users must touch to extend the USB connector, allowing the drive itself to appear as a solid metal object with no apparent means of entry; just as the Abra is meant to reveal data only for password-privileged users, the mechanics of the drive itself are not immediately evident except to those in the know.
“The LUNAR vision for Abra is a visual expression of the product's promise to be an unyielding vessel for the most precious data,” said John Edson, President of LUNAR. “The use of undiluted metal and a seamless design evokes boldness, honesty, confidence, and strength, putting an intangible concept – security – into the palm of your hand.”
To further evoke the concept of security, the Abra USB flash drive is cast in a durable metal to mimic the look and feel of a solid mass. When closed, the drive appears indestructible, heavy, and impenetrable – a secure lockbox with no weaknesses and no way in.
