Lunar Design Is Recognized With Silver and Bronze 2006 Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA)

SanDisk Ultra II SD Plus and The Accuray Next Generation Cyberknife Robotic Radiosurgery System Win In Two Categories

San Francisco, CA (July 6, 2006) -- Lunar Design, a 21-year-old world leader in creating successful, iconic products for the consumer and medical industries, has been recognized with the distinction of winning two prestigious honors by the 2006 Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA).  In the category of "Computer Equipment" Lunar was awarded Silver for the SanDisk Ultra II Plus, and in the category of  "Design Exploration" Lunar was awarded a Bronze for the Accuray Next Generation Cyberknife.

"Our focus has always been to create products that make a difference for our clients," said John Edson, president of Lunar Design.   "While awards are not our focus when we’re designing, it’s a remarkable honor to be recognized by Business Week and IDSA again this year, the 19th time in our 21-year history as a company."

Lunar created the SD Plus flash memory card with SanDisk, the global leader in flash memory products. Targeted primarily at the professional digital camera market, Lunar and SanDisk achieved groundbreaking engineering for this dual functionality storage and data transfer card. The innovative folding design integrates SD storage functionality with USB connectivity without the use of an additional card reader or adapter cable.

Accuray’s CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System is the world’s first and only radiosurgery system to use intelligent robotics. The CyberKnife combines image guidance and computer-controlled robotics to continuously track, detect and correct for tumor and patient movement throughout treatment, enabling the CyberKnife to treat tumors anywhere in the body with sub-millimeter accuracy. Accuray chose Lunar to completely revamp the CyberKnife system experience, remolding the system as a cohesive, integrated suite in technology and design, as opposed to disparate parts cobbled together.

Co-sponsored by the voice of industrial design, IDSA, and Business Week Magazine, the IDEA (Industrial Design Excellence Award) program is a celebration of the best product designs of the year.  The program fosters business and public understanding about the impact of industrial design excellence on the quality of life and the economy.  Lunar is honored to have received this prestigious award for its work with the Accuray Next Generation CyberKnife, and the SanDisk Ultra II SD Plus.
