Snoring relief is here! LUNAR client Ventus Medical has announced FDA approval for Theravent, its over-the-counter snoring treatment.
The LUNAR-designed product looks like a high tech band-aid with special MicroValves that fit across the nostrils. These MicroValves allow the user to breathe in freely, but slow the airflow when the user breathes out.
Theravent creates pressure to open and support the airway, a mechanism known as EPAP or expiratory positive airway pressure, says Rajiv Doshi, MD, Ventus’ Founder and Chief Scientific Officer. “Instead of having a smaller, floppier airway that vibrates (the cause of snoring), the airway is expanded and stiffer and thus less likely to vibrate and cause snoring,” he notes.
Clinical trials showed Theravent reduced snoring in 76 percent of users, based on measurements from decibel meters.
